Toddler ‘met dead grandma in heaven’

Monday, April 12th, 2010

A three-year-old German boy who was brought back to life after his heart stopped for three hours claims he met his grandmother in heaven.

medd_02_img0101

The boy, identified in media reports only as Paul, was playing on his own beside a lake at his grandfather’s property in Brandenburg when he fell in, the Bild newspaper reports.

Paul’s grandfather found his body in the water a short time later and the youngster was rushed to Helios Hospital via helicopter.

Four doctors attempted to resuscitate Paul for three hours and 18 minutes and were about to stop when his heart suddenly began beating.

It is believed the cold water in the lake caused Paul’s body temperature to drop to 28C — nine degrees below the normal 37C — which slowed his metabolism and allowed his body to survive with little oxygen.

When Paul woke he told his parents he was in “heaven with grandma Emmi … she said that I would go back down again very quickly”.

It is not known when the boy’s grandmother died or if he had ever met her.

Researchers said yesterday that near death experiences and divine encounters were a trick of the mind caused by high levels of carbon dioxide.

Professor Lothar Schweigerer from Helios Hospital said he had never seen anything like it in his 30 years as a doctor.

“My doctors were close to saying ‘we can do no more’ after two hours of thorax compression,” Professor Schweigerer was quoted on Sky News as saying.

“[We thought] the little lad must have been brain dead … but then suddenly his heart started to beat again … it was a fantastic miracle.

“The boy is happy and healthy. It’s a wonderful thing.”

Vatican thwarted Nazi plot for Turin Shroud

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

An Italian monk has claimed that during WWII, the Vatican evaded a plot by Adolf Hitler to steal the Turin Shroud…

turin_shroud_faceThe religious icon, famed for depicting the image of Jesus, is regarded and guarded as one of the Catholic Churches most sacred relics.

And according to Father Andrea Cardin, librarian of the Montevergine abbey, in a recent interview by Italian magazine Diva e Donna, the relic was equally coveted by Hitler prompting the Vatican to intervene and take the Shroud into hiding.

He said: ‘The Holy Shroud was moved in secret to the sanctuary in the Campania region on the precise orders of the Royal House of Savoy (which owned it at the time) and the Vatican.

‘Officially this was to protect it from possible bombing in Turin. In reality, it was moved to hide it from Hitler who was apparently obsessed by it.

‘When he visited Italy in 1938, his top-ranking Nazi aides asked unusual and insistent questions about the Shroud.

‘Then in 1943 when German troops searched the Montevergine church, the monks there pretended to be in deep prayer before the altar inside which the relic was hidden.

‘This was the only reason it wasn’t discovered. Then in 1946 it was returned to Turin, as instructed by (Italy’s last king) Umberto II of Savoy, and remains preserve there in that city’s cathedral.’

1 in 5 think aliens are here

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Aliens exist and they live in our midst disguised as humans — at least, that’s what 20 percent of people polled in a global survey believe.

aliens-among-usThe Reuters Ipsos poll of 23,000 adults in 22 countries showed that more than 40 percent of people from India and China believe that aliens walk among us disguised as humans, while those least likely to believe in this are from Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands (8 percent each).

However, the majority of people polled, or 80 percent, don’t believe aliens in our midst.

“It would appear that that there’s a modest correlation between the most populated countries and those more likely to indicate there may be aliens disguised amongst them compared with those countries with the smaller populations,” said John Wright, Senior Vice President of market research firm Ipsos.

“Maybe the it’s a simple case that in a less populated country you are more likely to know your next door neighbor better,” he said.

More men than women — 22 percent vs 17 percent — believe that alien beings are on earth.

Most of those believers are under the age of 35, and across all income classes, the survey showed. Of those who do not believe, most are women.

Sceptic challenges guru to kill him

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

When a famous tantric guru boasted on television that he could kill another man using only his mystical powers, most viewers either gasped in awe or merely nodded unquestioningly. Sanal Edamaruku’s response was different. “Go on then — kill me,” he said.

guru-killerMr Edamaruku had been invited to the same talk show as head of the Indian Rationalists’ Association — the country’s self-appointed sceptic-in-chief. At first the holy man, Pandit Surender Sharma, was reluctant, but eventually he agreed to perform a series of rituals designed to kill Mr Edamaruku live on television. Millions tuned in as the channel cancelled scheduled programming to continue broadcasting the showdown, which can still be viewed on YouTube.

First, the master chanted mantras, then he sprinkled water on his intended victim. He brandished a knife, ruffled the sceptic’s hair and pressed his temples. But after several hours of similar antics, Mr Edamaruku was still very much alive — smiling for the cameras and taunting the furious holy man.

“He was over, finished, completely destroyed!” Mr Edamaruku chuckles triumphantly as he concludes the tale in the Rationalist Centre, his second-floor office in the town of Noida, just outside Delhi.

Strange lights near nuclear sight

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Aliens could be the latest to weigh in on the nuclear waste storage debate after UFOs were spotted near the proposed Territory facility.

ufomanMuckaty Station manager Ray Aylett said he saw UFOs hovering over a part of his station north of Tennant Creek last Wednesday.

He said he spotted strange lights between the two sites on the property under consideration for the dump.

“I keep getting out the torch, I wanna get them down to have a beer or a steak but they won’t come down,” he said.

He said one of the two sites was attracting most of the attention from the sky.

“At one of the sites, two UFOs followed me – I was going to Helen’s Springs and two followed me along the road,” he said.

“I thought ‘bugger you, if you wanna go past, I’ll pull over’ I pulled over and they went.

“Later, when I got to the Helen Springs turnoff, two came in front of me – in the same night.”

But the latest sighting was slightly to the west of the homestead, placing it in an almost perfect equal geographic distance from the two sites.

“I went out to turn the lamp off and there was one out there in the west, he was there for a fair while,” he said. “He was just above the horizon – was there for a while and then went.

“It was like an orangey-coloured light – an orangey-coloured star.

“He was just sitting there. I’ve seen some good ones moving.”

The Barkly Shire councillor said most people think he’s mad over his UFO sightings, which have made him a Territory celebrity.

“They’ve been coming ever since I’ve been at Muckaty, for 13 years,” he said.

“They’re funny things, I reckon there are people on Earth, so there have got to be people out there.

“Everybody reckons I’m mad, but you’ve gotta be hunting them.”

Dan Aykroyd discusses his UFO beliefs, his ideas on the end of the world and Crystal Head Vodka…

aykroydghostbusters

While the movie version of 2012 my not have been the blockbuster extravaganza it could have been, many Hollywood a-listers have taken the message to heart.

Aykroyd, of Ghostbusters fame, as a lifetime benefactor to MUFON has long been a believer in the paranormal. When questioned by Doug Elfman about his ideas on the topic, he explains: “the UFO phenomenon is going to figure greatly” in a 2012 “revelation,” when “the end of the world will come.”

“It won’t be the end of the world physically as we know it, as depicted in the movie. But it will be the end of consciousness and the end of perception as we know it.”

Bosnian ‘apparition’ of Virgin Mary

Friday, March 19th, 2010

The Vatican has announced a commission to investigate claims that the Virgin Mary appears on a daily basis in a town in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

virgin-marySix children first reported the apparition in the town of Medjugorje in June 1981.

However, the sightings have not yet received official recognition from the Catholic Church.

The 20-strong commission will report to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the top doctrinal body.

For almost 30 years, the Virgin Mary has been said to appear daily in Medjugorje, dressed sometimes in a grey dress and veil and sometimes in gold, crowned with stars and floating on a cloud.

It is said she speaks in Croatian, uttering the words: “I’ve come because there are many true believers here. I wish to be with you to convert and reconcile the whole world.”

It is also said that three flashes of light precede her apparitions, during which the voices of the visionaries can no longer be heard.

But the Catholic Church has long debated the credibility of the sightings.

There was a recent visit by a cardinal from Vienna, Christoph Schoenberg.

But the bishop of neighbouring Mostar has frequently criticised unquestioning belief in the claims.

Until the commission reports back to the Church’s top doctrinal body, believers are likely to continue to flock to this small Bosnian town.

Around 30 million are estimated to have visited since the first sighting of what they call “Our Lady”.

Earth under threat from hidden star

Monday, March 15th, 2010

AN invisible star may be circling the Sun and causing deadly comets to bombard the Earth, scientists said yesterday.

hidden-starThe brown dwarf – up to five times the size of Jupiter – could be to blame for mass extinctions that occur here every 26 million years.

The star – nicknamed Nemesis by Nasa scientists – would be invisible as it only emits infrared light and is incredibly distant.

Nemesis is believed to orbit our solar system at 25,000 times the distance of the Earth to the Sun.

As it spins through the galaxy, its gravitational pull drags icy bodies out of the Oort Cloud – a vast sphere of rock and dust twice as far away as Nemesis.

These “snowballs” are thrown towards Earth as comets, causing devastation similar to the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

Now Nasa boffins believe they will be able to find Nemesis using a new heat-seeking telescope that began scanning the skies in January.

The Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer – expected to find a thousand brown dwarfs within 25 light years of the Sun – has already sent back a photo of a comet possibly dislodged from the Oort Cloud.

Scientists’ first clue to the existence of Nemesis was the bizarre orbit of a dwarf planet called Sedna.

Boffins believe its unusual, 12,000-year-long oval orbit could be explained by a massive celestial body.

Mike Brown, who discovered Sedna in 2003, said: “Sedna is a very odd object – it shouldn’t be there.

“The only way to get on an eccentric orbit is to have some giant body kick you – so what is out there?”

Professor John Matese, of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, said most comets come from the same part of the Oort Cloud.

He added: “There is statistically significant evidence that this concentration of comets could be caused by a companion to the Sun.”

French bread spiked in CIA test

Friday, March 12th, 2010

A 50-year mystery over the ‘cursed bread’ of Pont-Saint-Esprit, which left residents suffering hallucinations, has been solved after a writer discovered the US had spiked the bread with LSD as part of an experiment.

bread_frenchIn 1951, a quiet, picturesque village in southern France was suddenly and mysteriously struck down with mass insanity and hallucinations. At least five people died, dozens were interned in asylums and hundreds afflicted.

For decades it was assumed that the local bread had been unwittingly poisoned with a psychedelic mould. Now, however, an American investigative journalist has uncovered evidence suggesting the CIA peppered local food with the hallucinogenic drug LSD as part of a mind control experiment at the height of the Cold War.

The mystery of Le Pain Maudit (Cursed Bread) still haunts the inhabitants of Pont-Saint-Esprit, in the Gard, southeast France.

Devil hiding in the vatican?

Friday, March 12th, 2010

The Devil is lurking in the very heart of the Roman Catholic Church, the Vatican’s chief exorcist claimed on Wednesday.

vatican_devilFather Gabriele Amorth said people who are possessed by Satan vomit shards of glass and pieces of iron.

He added that the assault on Pope Benedict XVI on Christmas Eve by a mentally unstable woman and the sex abuse scandals which have engulfed the Church in the US, Ireland, Germany and other countries, were proof that the Anti-Christ was waging a war against the Holy See.

“The Devil resides in the Vatican and you can see the consequences,” said Father Amorth, 85, who has been the Holy See’s chief exorcist for 25 years.

“He can remain hidden, or speak in different languages, or even appear to be sympathetic. At times he makes fun of me. But I’m a man who is happy in his work.”

While there was “resistance and mistrust” towards the concept of exorcism among some Catholics, Pope Benedict XVI has no such doubts, Father Amorth said. “His Holiness believes wholeheartedly in the practice of exorcism. He has encouraged and praised our work,” he added.

The evil influence of Satan was evident in the highest ranks of the Catholic hierarchy, with “cardinals who do not believe in Jesus and bishops who are linked to the demon,” Father Amorth said.

In a rare insight into the world of exorcism, the Italian priest told La Repubblica newspaper that the 1973 film The Exorcist gave a “substantially exact” impression of what it was like to be possessed by the Devil.

People possessed by evil sometimes had to be physically restrained by half a dozen people while they were exorcised. They would scream, utter blasphemies and spit out sharp objects, he said.

“From their mouths, anything can come out – pieces of iron as long as a finger, but also rose petals,” said Father Amorth, who claims to have performed 70,000 exorcisms. “When the possessed dribble and slobber, and need cleaning up, I do that too. Seeing people vomit doesn’t bother me. The exorcist has one principal duty – to free human beings from the fear of the Devil.”

The attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II by a Turkish gunman in 1981 and recent revelations of “violence and paedophilia” committed by Catholic priests against children in their care was also the work of the Devil, said Father Amorth, who has written a book about his vocation, Memoirs of an Exorcist, which was published recently.

Father Amorth, who is the president of the Association of Exorcists and fought as a partisan during the war, has previously claimed that both Hitler and Stalin were possessed by the Devil.

In an interview with Vatican Radio in 2006, he said: “Of course the Devil exists and he can not only possess a single person but also groups and entire populations.

“I am convinced that the Nazis were all possessed. All you have to do is think about what Hitler and Stalin did.”

He also condemned the Harry Potter books, saying they were dangerous because they dabbled in the occult and failed to draw a clear distinction between “the Satanic art” of black magic and benevolent white magic.
