Real UFO in China or blunt hoax?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

china-ufoA UFO video taken by some students in China is currently picking up steam online in it’s crisp and clear view of a hovering, unidentified craft. Taken in daylight with no blurring, it appears to show an “alien ship” hover while rotating, then in the blink of an eye, shoot off out of sight.

The video, taken above the Wan Li university in Ningbo, China, has not yet been confirmed or denied at this stage. And while the footage of the UFO itself looks very realistic, the reaction this sighting causes in the students (who appear more interested in the camera than the supposed alien ship in the sky) screams fake.

Please let us know what you think about the video below by leaving your comments.

Saturn’s “Pac-Man” moon

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

The Cassini spacecraft in orbit around Saturn has caught an interesting new view of the tiny moon Mimas.

The probe measured temperature differences across the object’s surface and produced a map that looks just like the 1980s Pac-Man video games icon.

Scientists are unsure why Mimas should display such variations but say it is probably related to the diversity of textures in the surface materials.

Some textures may retain heat better than others, they explain.

Mimas is about 400km (250 miles) across. It has a distinctive scar called Herschel Crater which has led many to draw comparisons with the “Death Star” from the Star Wars movies.

The Cassini team says the creation of the crater itself might have played a key role in changing conditions across extensive regions of the moon’s surface.

Cassini is a joint venture between the US space agency (Nasa), the European Space Agency (Esa) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI).

Its mission was recently extended through to 2017.

Hairless sloth

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

A mystery creature was allegedly beaten to death by a group of teenagers in Panama. The youths apparently spotted the monster crawling out of a cave near the town of Cerro Azul, north of Panama City. Frightened and fearing for their safety they attacked the creature with sticks as it moved towards them. It is described as ‘hairless with a rubbery body and revolting features’. A hooked claw visible in the pictures led some cryptozoologists to believe that the creature could have been a sloth that in some way lost its hair. The teenagers returned and took photographs but since then the body has disappeared. Other possible identifications given are a dead dog, movie prop or a marketing stunt. Mad mantis

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

A witness reported a bizarre experience to MUFON which took place on the 8th of August in Philadelphia, USA. He was first buzzed four five seconds by a 4ft luminescent orb while on the roof of his work place. He said: ‘It materialized about a foot away from me, blocking my way and making a buzzing sound, it then took off and dematerialized in approximately a 6 feet distance. At this time I decided to turn around and leave the roof.’ An hour later, while walking through the plant room, he saw a 3ft tall creature. He continues: ‘It had a beautiful baby blue eye which was moving rapidly, just one, a long eyelid and rubbery looking legs with bulbous feet. I could see it was starting to panic because it started stomping his feet like a mad skunk or jumping up and down and making a high pitch squeaking sound almost like a cat’s toy. It then ran away.’ This gentleman was to have a few more bizarre encounters over the next few days. (Source: MUFON).

Cuts cast doubt on asteroid plan

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Plans to more precisely plot the orbit of an asteroid with a small chance of hitting Earth in 2036 may be badly hit by funding cuts to a US radar facility.

Radar measurements set to be made in January 2013 by the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, US, could help rule out an impact by asteroid Apophis.

But the cuts mean Arecibo needs an extra $2m-$3m a year to continue.

If not, the observations planned for 2011-2013 will have to be abandoned, the facility’s director told BBC News.

Dr Michael Nolan said he was “moderately optimistic” that the money could be found.

But he pointed out that Arecibo was the only observatory in the world sensitive enough for the task.

“If we measure [Apophis] in 2013, there is something like a 95% chance that we’ll be able to prove that it can’t hit the Earth in 2036,” he explained.

Does your home need healing?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

This is the time of year when most of us engage in some form of spring-cleaning – washing, dusting and sweeping spiders out of dark corners should swiftly dispel the winter gloom.

house-ghostBut if it doesn’t, then maybe your home is suffering from a deeper malaise than grimy curtains – or so believes ‘house healer’ Sandra Kendrew, who has been working with troubled buildings and their occupants for nearly a decade.

‘We’ve all been into houses that just don’t have a nice atmosphere, even if you can’t put your finger on what’s wrong,’ explains Sandra.

‘Often, the occupants report feelings of tiredness, unexplained headaches, depression, even relationship problems. My job is to identify the energy that’s causing the problem, and disperse it safely.’

Florida Nessie

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Extract from a letter to the Tampa Bay Weekly, Florida: ‘I must share this visual sighting with everyone since it has happened two times now on the Madeira Beach. The last time was a week ago and it came out of the water further than previously and I could estimate the girth that came out of the water at 12 to 15 inches in diameter. It continued its roll seemingly for a long time and it had to be 12 to 15 feet in length judging by the roll time. It was brown on top with mottled brown and yellow lower side. It finally flipped its tail before disappearing and it was a flat, lamprey like vertical caudal fin an estimated 9 to 10 inches maximum fl are tapering to a point. I never saw the head and there was neither dorsal fin nor pectoral fins visible. After the first sighting I thought it might be a huge snake that someone turned loose, escaped or whatever because it did not roll as high out of the water so the size (girth) was not real evident although it was the same colour on back and sides from what I could see. It did not flip its tail that time so the weird shaped caudal fin was not visible.’ (Source: Russell Sittloh Madeira Beach 8th October 2009).

Flying cow

Monday, March 29th, 2010

A couple driving along a river north of Rosario in Puerto Gabota, Argentina, were more than a little surprised to see a flying cow! They took photographs which they passed to a local journalist and reported: ‘We were looking at the island and we were surprised to see some strange white thing flying. It was large. We made a close-up with the camera and it was a cow flying, and above it, there was something like a flying saucer suspended in the air (some of the photos accompany the report). It wasn’t a helicopter or an airplane. It seemed as if the cow was being sucked up by the flying saucer. Then they both vanished. I want to believe that’s what it was. To me, it was a UFO. I experienced it.’ (Source: rosario3.com).

New name, same old ghost

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

The Victory Bar at 118E Sixth Street in Tucson, Arizona, is now called Gooch’s Grill, but all patrons know of the ghost that lurks in the rooms whatever the sign says outside the door. After closing time ‘bottle caps are flicked by unseen fingers, the swinging saloon-style doors that lead up to the second floor office will swing back and forth for no apparent reason [and] lights turn off or on by themselves.’ The ghostly figure of a woman is also sometimes seen and crying can often be heard. Although the ghost is well known throughout the area, no one knows its identity, although the present owner, Lon Wirtz, believes that a woman had been raped and murdered on the spot where the establishment now stands. Translucent beings

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Recently a woman in Wisconsin, USA, saw three ‘translucent beings sitting in trees outside her window.’ The time was 10am when the beings appeared, she was rooted to the spot as she watched them. The reports says: ‘Each entity was somehow attaching itself to the tree four feet off the ground.’ They were six inches wide and about 1ft tall, with extremely long arms with cone-shaped faces and noses. Looking momentarily away and back, the beings had then gone as mysteriously as they had arrived. The witness’s boyfriend later saw them but this time they were riding on a ‘form of platform busying themselves at a control panel’. Two days later they saw one of the beings in the same tree.
