Cheshire farmer sparks UFO frenzy with balloons
The glowing, multi-coloured orb hovered eerily over fields…clearly deciding the best place to attack.
But the hundreds of UFO alerts and expert theories it sparked were just hot air.
Farmer Johnny Hewitt has admitted the mysterious presence in the sky was his bright idea of a beacon for party guests.
Johnny, 35, said: “I didn’t think it would be so spooky or draw so much attention. So, sorry everyone! It’s not aliens or any other UFO… it was my balloons!
“I bought ‘illums’ [which light up] and put around 400 in a net, filling them with helium. I tethered the whole thing with a fishing line and put it 200ft in the air.
“It was a spectacle. The local paper had an article with an expert saying it was likely a meteor shower about 22,000ft up.”

The “spaceship” flew at Johnny’s farm near Altrincham, Cheshire, last week but he said: “I’ll put it back up for Halloween.”
