Playful ghost haunts swings

Monday, October 26th, 2009

A ‘HAUNTED’ playground swing that rocks backwards and forwards on its own for days has scientists baffled.

Parents and children are convinced a ghost is to blame.

They were so spooked they reported the swing to cops after it began moving four months ago.

The phenomenon flummoxed police, who called physics professors into Firmat, Argentina.

But so far the boffins have failed to find a logical explanation.

Locals claim the seat moves nonstop for TEN DAYS before stopping dead, while other swings remain still.

Teacher Maria de Silva Agustina said yesterday: “One child called it the Blair Witch Playground. We believe it is haunted.”

Academics have now ruled out magnetic and electrical fields, and winds – and called in ghosthunters.

Firey ‘Meteorite’ lands in Latvia

Monday, October 26th, 2009

A fiery object struck farmland creating a large crater near a small town in northern Latvia.

No-one was injured in the incident and geologists are now studying the object, which may be a meteorite.

Locals claimed the object fell near a farmhouse on the outskirts of Mazsalaca town in the district of Valmiera last night.

It created a crater which measured 50 feet across and 16 feet deep.

A witness who claimed to have seen the incident described the ‘meteorite’ as making a noise similar to the one of an aircraft flying at a low altitude.

ldis Nulle, a scientist at the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center, said there was smoke coming out of the crater when he arrived at the crash site late Sunday in the Mazsalaca region near the Estonian border.

‘My first impression is that, yes, it was a meteorite,’ he said. ‘All the evidence suggests this when compared to pictures of real meteorite craters.’

He said the rim of the crater was slightly raised and there was a black-grayish scar at the bottom – both signs of a meteorite impact.

Experts outside Latvia said it was unusual for such a large meteorite to hit the Earth. The planet is constantly bombarded with objects from outer space, but most burn up in the atmosphere and never reach the surface.

In 2007, a meteorite crashed near Lake Titicaca in Peru, causing a crater about 40 feet (12 metres) wide and 15 feet (5 metres) deep.

Asta Pellinen-Wannberg, a meteorite expert at the Swedish Institute of Space Research, said she didn’t know the details of the Latvian incident, but that a rock would have to be at least three feet (one metre) in diameter to create a hole that size.

Henning Haack, a lecturer at Copenhagen University’s Geological Museum said more information was needed to confirm that the crater was indeed caused by a meteorite.

‘With all these kind of reports we get there always is a pretty large margin of error,’ he said.

In Latvia, Nulle said a group of experts would examine the crater today and bring rock samples back to the capital, Riga, for testing.

Nulle rushed to the site after people in the area reported seeing a fiery object falling from the sky.

Inga Vetere of the Fire and Rescue Service said a military unit has tested the site and found that radiation levels are normal. There were no injures.

She said police have cordoned off the area to prevent souvenir hunters from taking away the soil.

‘We are not finally sure that this is a meteorite,’  she told Itar-Tass news agency. ‘Eyewitnesses said something fell from the sky and fire started.’

Russian blogs posted a YouTube video that claimed to show the remains of the meteor burning brightly shortly after the crash, but the validity of the video has not yet been confirmed. You can view the footage on our video page by CLICKING HERE.

‘Paranormal Activity’ tops US box office

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Low budget horror Paranormal Activity has landed at number one in the North American box office chart.

The film, which reportedly only cost $15,000 (£9,200) to make, took $22m (£13.5m) in its first weekend on nationwide release.

It trounced the sixth instalment of the horror franchise Saw, which opened at two with the worst takings in the series’ history with $14.8m (£9.1m).

Last week’s number one film, Where The Wild Things Are, fell to number three.

Saw’s previous low was $18.3m (£11.2m) for the original movie, with its subsequent instalments all opening at $30m (£18.4m) or above.

Thanks to online positive word-of-mouth interest, Paramount Pictures decided to release Paranormal Activity nationwide after playing to sold-out crowds at midnight-only screenings for the past four weekends.

The fictional movie, shot like a homemade documentary, follows a couple coping with apparitions and supernatural phenomena in their home.

Its success on wider release brings its total box office takings to $62.5m (£38.3m).

Other new releases in the top 10 included animated film Astro Boy at six and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant at eight.

Due for release in the UK on November 27, 2009.

UFO spotted over Michigan

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

A Michigan witness watched two unidentified objects in the night sky over Round Lake on October 4, 2009.

The first was described as a bright, tall, box-shaped object. It moved across the sky with “three sets of multi color blinking lights,” made a sharp right turn, and turned its lights off. The second object was described as “a bright white disc shaped object that had a round center.” The witness was able to snap one photo with a cell phone of the second object and wants to know if anyone else saw the same thing.

The full witness description is below:

Full Moon, Mostly Clear Sky.

“I went out on the Balcony of the cottage overlooking Round Lake to smoke a cigarette. As soon as I stepped outside I noticed a bright Tall Box shaped object moving accross my view from the left. I saw it very clear. It had three sets of multi color blinking lights. It suddenly mad a sharp right turn and the lights went out and I could not see it. I went inside to tell my wife what I had saw then grabbed my cellphone to use its camera in case I saw it again. I went back onto the balcony and almost instantly noticed another very bright object moving in the night sky towards where I was at. This object was a bright white disc shaped object that had a round center. I was able to get a picture of this object before it turned and then went straight up and at a high rate of speed. I have attached the picture I took. Please let me know if anybody else has reported seeing these objects. I have seen many airplanes in the air and can tell you that these were not planes or helicopters.”

Ghost dog spotted in picture

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

A photograph downloaded from an estate agents website by a Paranormal Magazine reader, is found to contain a ghostly image of a dog that had died over ten years ago.

Paranormal Magazine reader, Carl Fox, spotted the ghostly image of his deceased dog after downloading the images of the house he grew up in from an estate agents website.

According to Carl:

“My Father passed away several years ago from cancer. The house (in Barnsley, South Yorkshire) that I was raised in has now been put up for sale. Whilst downloading photos of the house from the Estate Agent’s website for sentimental reasons, I noticed something very strange.

“In the photo of the 2nd bedroom, I was surprised to see our old Jack Russell dog, Susie in the window. Susie died at the age of 16 in 1997 and the image in the window is the spitting image of her as a puppy.

“Take a look at the photos and see what you think. The photo of the room is still available from the Estate Agent’s website so there is no way I could tamper with it.”

A picture of Susie as a puppy is pictured above and clearly shows the uncanny resemblence with the image in the window.

Let us know what your thoughts are on this photo and if you have spotted something unusual in a photo, send it in to us.

Aliens spotted at crop circle

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

UFO experts are investigating the sighting of three aliens who were spotted near a freshly made crop circle.

An off-duty police officer, who has not been named, was driving when he made the bizarre discovery near Avebury in Wiltshire.

He got out of his car and approached the figures –who were 6ft tall with blonde hair – but they ran away when they saw him.

The policeman described hearing the “sound of static electricity” before the trio ran away “faster than any man he had ever seen”.

Crop circle researcher Andrew Russell, who is investigating the incident, said: “At first the officer thought they were forensic officers as they were dressed in white coveralls. He stopped his car and approached the field.

“The figures were all over 6ft and had blonde hair. They seemed to be inspecting the crop. When he go to the edge of the field he heard what he believe to be a sound not dissimilar to static electricity.”

He added: ”He shouted to the figures who, at first, ignored him, not glancing at him. When he tried to enter the field they looked up and began running.”

He told how the officer described how they disappeared in seconds but that the crackling noise continued.

The sergeant reported having a pounding headache for the rest of the day, following the incident on 6 July this year.

Colin Andrews, who is also investigating the sighting, said he was “convinced” by the story.

The crop circle expert said: ”I think with the unusual movement of the being and the poltergeist experiences, there is too much additional information to say that is something in nothing.”

Wiltshire Police refused to comment, claiming the matter was a “personal” one because the officer was off-duty.

UFO sightings continue in China

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
After a series of high-profile UFO events in China things went very quiet on the extraterrestrial front for the last few weeks.
Many researchers wondered where the UFOs had gone. Had Alien tourists lost interest in China? The lull however appears to have ended. Making news in China is a recent mass sighting in Chongqing: A UFO hotspot. The event has been covered by at least two dozen newspapers.
At 8pm on October 18 numerous witnesses observed two luminous discs swing and crisscrossing each other for around half an hour before vanishing.  The UFOs were seen in nearby villages as well. No photos have come to light yet. Some government officials have suggested these might have been spotlights.
One witness, Mr Cheng, insists that what he saw ‘were alien spaceships’.

Reporters note: I am not surprised that Mr Cheng was convinced that these were alien in origin as this particular sighting seems almost identical to a UFO event, indeed my only ever sighting, I witnessed in Sydney, Australia back in 1995. This also involved two glowing silver discs criss-crossing each other wildly. I too watched these ’playful’ objects for a fairly long time and they definitely were not spotlights, animals or any known earthly craft. Whatever they were, they managed to attract the attention of police helicopters, a nearby searchlight located on an office building and the local dogs, all barking madly.

With superhero franchise mode well and truly under way now, it was never going to be long before the first (of many) major spin-offs arrived. X-Men Origins: Wolverine sets the precedence for this ‘new breed’, landing with a bang in a period jam-packed with comic-related box office extravaganzas.

While fanboys worldwide have been chomping at the bit for a Wolverine origin tale for quite some time now, most will be somewhat under-whelmed by the stuttering thud of its arrival.

The film starts out in 1840s Canada at the moment when Logan (Wolverine) ‘realises’ his mutant abilities and runs right through to a point/ state that would allow for the character to slot neatly into the X-Men Trilogy. For fans of the character, series and genre this will come as a welcome addition as we get to find out exactly how Logan became the animalistic, furry ball of rage with adamantium claws that we all know.

However, on the whole Wolverine is let down by the fragmented plot and surprisingly poor special effects on show. Jumping from one action sequence to another, it is little more than a passable action movie, leaving you feeling that a period piece of Wolverine and his brother at war (as seen in the opening montage) would have been a much more enjoyable and original film to watch.

Unfortunately for Wolverine this origin while highly anticipated doesn’t quite live up to its characters invincibility. But if there is a silver lining (which is tenuous!), there is sure to be many more spin offs that will improve on this.

Russian minister confirms UFO event this month in Russia

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Numerous residents living in and around Perm witnessed a UFO that appeared to be falling towards earth on September 15 at around 10pm…

Internet UFO sites and radio stations were humming with theories as to what the object might have been. Most residents believed it was part of a satellite, some thought it might have been a meteor, and of course a few were convinced that they had seen a flying saucer or extraterrestrial craft.

Well known Perm expert on UFOs, Nikolai Subotin, commented that a satellite launch had been planned for around that time and therefore it was unlikely to have been an object of ET origin.
Perm Territory minister for public security, Igor Orlov, also acknowledged the UFO event however noted that ‘It is no secret that perm lies under a path for orbiting satellites’. He also announced that no debris had been found at all in the area where the object might have impacted. Valery Tiunov, the head of the major local news agency did observe however that Perm emergency services did not receive information about any satellites impacting earth, adding to the mystery surrounding the event.

Witnesses described the object as consisting of one bright object with four smaller objects surrounding it. It vanished before it would have hit the ground.
