A werewolf, a vampire and a ghost move into a house together… It might sound like the start of a joke, but Being Human is actually a great new supernatural drama and Britain’s answer to the grander scale American series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.
Following this supernatural trio, we see a group of unlikely friends struggle in their search for normality while the pressures of a paranormal existence hang overhead. The series feels like a humorous but gritty look at the troubles encountered in everyday life. But taking place on the cusp of a vampire war against humanity, there is a lot more to sink your teeth into here.
The concept may have some thinking ‘Oh no!’ But Being Human is a sharp, well-written series moving between the line of gimmicky horror and serious twenty-something drama surprisingly well. And the focus on characters over clichés helps bring out some great performances, especially from werewolf George, the most human and troubled of the three. Not one to be missed, Being Human will leave you screaming for more.
