Sacred 2: Fallen Angel is a fantasy based role-playing-game from German developer Ascaron. Set 1000 years before the original game, the world of Ancaria is in turmoil as rival factions fight over the valuable T-Energy resource. The Seraphim class is retained from the first game, with five new classes to choose from as well. Players can choose to follow the light or shadow campaign paths depending on whether they fancy saving citizens or reeking havoc.
The sumptuous graphics and almost seamless transitions between regions gives Sacred 2 an awe-inspiringly immersive world. There is a map on screen to aid navigation and quests are easy to find although they tend to be focused on fetching and protecting. Combat against the wide variety of
enemies is straightforward and becomes increasingly addictive with the ability to use powerful attacks from your chosen God. Killing enemies and completing quests adds to the experience points that can be used to upgrade characters. Various traits such as charisma, ability with weapons and physical attributes can be increased to customise characters further. All of this should mean this is a great game.
Unfortunately, it fails to achieve its potential. Even with the latest patches, the game has more bugs than an entomology museum. Low computer AI causes characters you are trying to protect to attack far superior foes – that is, when they aren’t falling through the floor. Enemies get stuck in attack
animation loops and the vanishing map makes the tedious amount of walking even less bearable. The attempted humour falls short and unfortunately becomes repetitive. There are countless more flaws, which is a shame.
This luscious and addictive game is let down by numerous bugs and annoying minor gameplay issues. It is still enjoyable but it may be worth waiting for Diablo 3.
