I work as a photographer in the Tynevalley in Northumberland where many big cat sightings have been seen.I was fortunate to encounter such a cat whilst driving to a job on A68 near Barley Hill, nr
Slaley, A black cat the size of a labrador came out from a hedge and walked across a narrow lane disappearing into a field. It's head was very small in conjuction to it's body. It had a long thick tail that curled at the end and it walked turning it's feet up. I turned my car round quickly and went to the location I had seen it. but it was nowhere in sight. On another occasion whilst walking in Allerwash,in Hexhamshire, Northumberland.I was stopped dead in my tracks by the gutteral roar of what sounded like a lion, after they made a kill. I was so terrified the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end and sheep in the field next to me- gathered in a group and started to act oddly. They were turning in a circle fighting over who was in the middle.
Another encounter by a friend driving along the Millitary Road near Hadrians Wall early one morning-was astounded to look out of the window at the scenery to see two Lionesses running at speed along the Roman Wall.Mystery killings of sheep had been going on for weeks. And at Bradley Farm nr Prudhoe, Northumberland two calves were found dead. There savaged bodies put down to a large predator.Big ats are often sighted near Allendale, from policemen to delivery drivers have seen them. In 1901 or 1910 a wolf was shot dead in the region. The last known wolf in exsistence. The area is full of mine shafts so a big cat could live there quite happily.

In Virginia, the mythic big cat sighted a lot is the cougar or mountain lion, supposedly extinct in the state since 1900s. I wrote a whole chapter on this cyptopedic animals in my new book, Haunted Virginia: Legends, Myths and True Tales.
Personally, though the state denies sightings, I believe the cat has been seen--after all, coyotes have been seen in East Coast after years out west only and many animals like deer live in my own neighborhood but hide really well, but we all know most likely them eat fruti off our trees in yards.

Hi , just a quick note on the Beast of Bodmin photograph. The animal has all the features of a large domestic animal, and no leopard characteristics at all. There is a little discrepency in the accounts also. In the newspapers the witnesses say they were driving by when they spotted it, in a BCIB report form they said they were setting up the equipment. I have emailed them to try and clear up the difference, but as yet have heard nothing back from them.
